Custom-made Furniture
I've been making furniture and built-ins for many years. Here a a few recent examples.
I would be delighted to discuss a project that you have in mind.

Banquette
Custom-made bench and cushions
This banquette was built for a TV room and we have decided to re-purpose the room as an office. We were able to find a new home for it.
Design highlights:
- The unit is in two pieces, constructed of 2x4's
- Face is tongue-and-groove knotty pine, finished in Minwax Colonial Maple and Tung Oil
- Outside dimensions of the "L-shape" are 94" x 72"
- The main piece is 72" x 30" and the back is 40" high
- There is a full back on the main piece
- The smaller piece is 72" x 22"
- The cushions were custom made by ARTEE Fabrics & Home in Princeton, NJ
- The 4" thick cushions are supported on inter-woven elastic webbing, Dacron padding, and a fabric covering

Dining Table
This mid-century modern dining table was a commissioned project.
Here are the design highlights:
- Dimensions: 36" x 72" and 30" in height
- The client specified White Oak and wanted the ends of the boards in the top to be exposed rather than have breadboard ends
- The legs are mounted flush with the corners of the table, without an apron; they are tapered and splayed
- Finished with Danish Oil

Quilt Bench
This quilt bench stores a king-size quilt at night with a shelf for two shams.
- Dimensions: 18" x 72" x 24" in height
- Pine with Ogee edges on top and shelf
- Finished with Tung Oil

Built-in Bookcases
These bookcases were designed to highlight the "minimalist, form follows function" esthetic:
- Dimensions: Each module is 24" wide x 78" tall x 9" deep
- Select (knot-free) pine is used throughout
- Designed to be strong enough so that the shelves will not sag
- The uprights are frames made of 1x3s that are open in the middle to make them less visually massive
- Finished with Tung Oil
- The backs are open with an accent color painted on the wall
Built-in Closet Fixtures
In our house renovation, we converted a small bedroom into his & hers walk-in closets. The design embodied these ideals:
- Various storage configurations to optimize space utilization
- Elegance through simplicity -- minimize use of materials
- Keep the floor open as much as possible -- closet poles and shelving are mounted on uprights that are hung from - and rest on - cleats attached to studs in the walls
- Highlight the materials used -- constructed out of pine, finished with Tung Oil
